Cosmic Newton

Hello crafty friends,

I have been in a funk, with no interest in crafting (I know... shocking) for a few weeks now.  So after packing up all my Christmas stamps and other crafty stuff, I pulled a few of my favorite stamp sets and placed them on my desk hoping they would bring my creativity out.

on Sunday, I sat down and started working on a couple of watercolor backgound panels and later added Cosmic Newton (from SSS) to one of the panels.  The two astronaut Newtons are popped up on Action Wobbles.

I used my Prima Metallic Watercolor set for all the coloring.  Since I wanted my background dark and pigmented, I didn't dilute the watercolors with water too much.  I also went with an ombre kind of affect to mimic the trip into outer space.  The cats are not as shimmery, because I diluted the watercolors with lots water.

It's hard to capture the shimmer in a photo.

Thanks for stopping bye to check out my Cosmic Newtons.  Wish me luck, because I'm entering this card in the current Simon Says Wednesday Interactive Card theme Challenge.

Scrapy Land - Challenge #91

Hello crafty friends... welcome to the start of Scrapy Land Challenge #91.  Come join us... the theme is "anything goes".

Cards with eclipse words are very trendy, so for this challenge I tried my hand at creating one.  I started with a stitched die cut white card panel, stamping Newton in his space suit.  Using copic markers I drew a corner of Earth so that Newton could have something to orbit.  I colored "space" with blues and purples.  Once my panel was fully colored and dry... I die cut the word "Hello" (here are many "hello" die options)  from the panel.  I also die cut the word three more times from white card stock, so that when I stacked them and replaced into the card panel the word would have dimension.

Thanks for stopping bye.... please join us for this challenge.  The winners... one selected randomly and one selected by the Design Team will both receive a $10 gift certificate to Scrapy Land.  Until next time... take care

Inky Paws Challenge 62 - Card 1

Hello crafty friends,

I'm submitting this card to Inky Paws Challenge's #62, which ends on 1/5/18...

I used the "A Cozy Day In" stamp set for my card.  I started by creating my card background first.  I used a white and small teal flower pattern paper for my "wall", a wood grain pattern paper for my "floor" and strips of white cards stock for my "base board".

Next I stamped and colored my images.  I created texture to the chair by drawing lines and making the quilted buttons black.  I stamped several parts of the image multiple times, because I wanted some of them raised for added interest.  The blanket and kitty on it, were cut as one and glued over the original stamped imaged for a slightly dimensional look.  The kitty on top of the chair was cut twice, once for the body and again for the head.  This picture shows the dimension.

I created the wall portrait by fussy cutting the two kitties and arranging them within a die cut teal square.  I kept them uncolored to mimic a black & white photo.  I created the photo frame my mounting the teal square onto a wood grain (same as the floor) square.   LOL... I even gave my book a title "Life With Cats".

I'm really happy with my final card and even thou my colors are in the same family as the inspiration colors, they not as light in tone.  Thanks for stopping bye... wish me luck in the challenge.

Inky Paws Challenge 62 - Card 2

Hello crafty friends,

I'm submitting this card to Inky Paws Challenge's #62, which ends on 1/5/18...

I used the "Newton's Naptime" stamp set for my card.  Honestly, this card took me time to come together.  I stamped and colored the image several times, but a just wasn't happy with my results.  As I was looking around for pattern paper I saw my pile of fussy cut images and a light-bulb went on.

I re-stamped my image this time using masks to create a cluster of 3 sleeping kitties.  I colored them using my Zig water brush pens, alternating the inspiration colors on the blankets.  I was going for a one layer card, but at this point I realized that I should have placed the two kitties in front and the one in the back for a more even look to my card.  I basically just didn't like how the one kitty in the front was so much lower than the others... so I decided to cut off the bottom three blankets from the front kitty to reduce the height difference :) and has a last tweak once the image was mounted to a card background and base, I added those three cut off blankets upside down (for a change in I'm not sure what) behind the two kitties.

I felt really good with my card at this point, even thou once again my colors are darker in tone than the inspiration colors.  Thanks for stopping bye... wish me luck in the challenge.

Add Some Sparkle Challenge

Hello crafty friends,

update 12/5/17... so happy to report that my card was selected as a favorite :)

We recently got a third cat... after mush deliberation we decided on Storm for a name.  And believe me he is living up to his name.  He is a tiny package of energy and loves to move things around with his mouth/teeth.  Our other two boys (Rusty and Bear) have totally excepted him into the pack.

Obviously I love cats :) I also love the Newton's Book Club stamp set and used it for this card that I made for a young friend who's graduating college in the spring.

The graduation cap is from the Lawn Fawn Hats Off To You stamp set and the Congratulation die is from Die-Versions.  On the cards inside I wrote... we can tell all your sleeping (cross off) studying paid off.

Now a graduation card is not one people associate with sparkle normally, but I added sparkle to the caps with my Wink Of Stella and with glittery dots.  I'm submitting this card to the Inky Paws Challenge #60 - Add Some Sparkle, so wish me luck!
