Some Red, White and Blue Oldies

Not much crafting took place this weekend. But with 4th of July just around the corner, I really wanted to put a little RED, WHITE and BLUE on the blog, so how about a few older cards.

Here I started with two cards (5x6.5 and 4x5.5). Using a black marker I created rays using The Crafter's Workshop 12 x 12 Sunburst Template.  Next I filled the rays with doodles.  I have zero drawing skills, so this was definitely outside my comfort zone. I made the POW die cuts four layers high, so that they would have more impact.  The top layer was cut from glitter red card stock.  The color on the rays is Copic R85 Rose Red. 

Here, I started with my dry embossed background.  I used a piece of white card stock and the Sizzix daisy blast embossing folder, because it looked like fireworks to me.  I swiped a red ink pad directly onto the embossed card stock. 

I created my "lets CELEBRATE july 4th" banner by combining four layers. From top down... white Die-Versions "a hint of lime" die cut letters, blue fussy cut banner for letters to sit on, red Die-Versions "celebrate" die cut, white fussy cut banner around the complete element.  I mounted my Die-Versions "hip hip hooray" die cut on an open back red Quickutz star die cut, which i first backed with white. 

Wishing American a Happy Birthday wasn't my intent when I created this card a few months back for a OWH blog hop, but I think this card would make a great 4th of July card. 

I started by stamping a wood background in red. Next I dry embossed a star designed onto a 3 3/4 x 5 piece of red glitter paper and using a sharp craft knife I fussy cut a few of the stars out. I taped the star embossed red glitter paper directly onto my card and in each of the star openings I inserted a glossy blue star sticker. The final step was to add my happy bday matted die cut ticket.

Still in Love w/my Halie Media Doll

This month's Die-Versions LIFE AS A DIVA release has me thinking of all things that sparkle and shine.  For my first project I knew the perfect pairing for my design team dies would be my Halie Media Doll stamp and die set.

I incorporated all three of my dies into my tag:




The Whispers - Diva Crown die, which I cut three times out of silver card stock and used on the right side of my tag. I also used a small piece of the crown die in my girl's hair.  I started with the middle die cut and them trimmed the top and bottom die cuts to fit the remaining area.  I was careful to mirror the two end pieces. I included close up photos of this step down below.   

The Whispers - Polished Diamond die, which I cut three times out of silver card stock.  I used double sided tape (after die cutting) to keep all the little pieces together.

The Sweet Spots - Girly Girl die, which I cut out of red glittery card stock and placed over the diamond die cuts.

How Do You Feel About Yellow?

I'm not a big fan of yellow, but lately I have been reaching for it a lot.   Case in point, this card that I featured on the Die-Versions blog a few days ago.  I went with a mostly white background, which I hardly ever do, because I just don't seem to be able to keep whites white AND I used yellow as pretty much my only color... what's up with that?  

Maybe stepping outside my comfort zoom was a good thing, because I have to admit that I LOVE this card.  It's so girly :)

The card was very easy to create.  I started by stamping my bride (uptown girl BRIGGITTE the bride) directly onto my card base.  I gave her dress a pale blue color wash and her hair and flowers a yellow color wash.  I also stamped the "once in a while" Stampabilities stamp sentiment directly on my card base.

Next, I die cut the Diva Crown - Whisper die from gold card stock and arranged it on the card base so that is framed the sentiment.  I added some pearls, small white flower and three bigger white flowers that I first color washed w/yellow distressed ink (same ink I used on the stamped hair and flowers).  My final step was adding Stickles to all the yellow color washed items.

Happy BDAY/Mother's Day

I scrapbooked two separate occasions this weekend.

The first layout showcases a cropped photo of my father-in-law.  It was taken at a restaurant during our May2014 celebration.   May is a very busy and expensive month for us, because not only does Mother's Day fall in May, but both my mother-in-lay and father-in-law have May birthdays... in fact only three days apart.  Usually we all get together to celebrate all the events the Saturday following Mother's day.

This year our dinner destination was the recently relocated/reopened Damiani's Pizza.  A south side pizza place that my husband grew up on and which to the great disappointment of all the Moisans,  the owner closed several years ago.   I was only there twice, so I don't have the same attachment to the place that they do.  And I'll go on record and say that I don't care how good the pizza is, if I can't get a diet Pepsi or at the very least a diet Coke w/dinner it will never be a favorite of mine.

On this layout I used this Die-Version Happy BDAY die to make those tickets.   I'm not sure if this layout is finished.  I think it needs a title, but I'm not sure.
   

The second layout is of us and my Mom at Arlington Race Track during the first part of our Mother's Day celebration.   This was the first year in four/five years that the weather hasn't been cold and rainy.  It was a gorgeous sunny day in the 70s.    The big winners of the day were Mom and LP.

You are NEVER to old to play with dolls

Hello Crafty Friends,

As my post title says... you are NEVER to old to play with dolls.  Several weeks back I saw a video featuring the Prima Mixed Media Doll Stamp and Die combos and I fell in LOVE.  I looked online, but found them sold out.   I put myself on a waiting list at Simon Say Stamps and a couple of weeks ago I got my doll.  I purchased the Halie doll, because of dress.

Yesterday, I finally had the time and energy (it's been a bad week full of sinus headaches) to sit and play with my new doll stamp and die set.  I created two layouts (more on those later) and four dolls.   Here are my babies:

Starting from left to right...

Halie 1 has a pattern paper dress and I gave her "tights", but coloring her legs w/a green copic that matched the pattern paper.

Halie 2 has a pattern paper dress, but what you can't see on this picture is that I separated the bottom part of the dress and inserted a couple of foam squares for dimensional layers.  I also colored the bottom part w/a gray copic that matched the pattern paper.

Halie 3 has the same pattern paper dress as Halie 1, but I cut off the flares of the dress die cut to get a different shaped dress.  I colored the bottom part of the dress w/a green copic that matched the pattern paper and added a large (for her) bow stamp to the front of the dress.  I made a green colored t-shirt, by tracing her upper body onto a white piece of paper, which I hand cut and colored w/the same green copic. Halie 3 also got a new hair do... I used the bangs die cut as intended and made my own pixie cut back hair piece.

Halie 4 has a pattern paper dress and white crop pants I made by tracing her legs onto a white piece of paper.

I LOVE how all four of my Halies turned out.  They each have their own "look".  And I love how super easy it was to make extra stuff for them, like the hair, the t-shirt and crop pants.   Here's another look at them:

On my first card I used the following: two sheets of Inspired by Stamping pattern paper from the 6x6 Spring Lilacs Paped Pad for my background, a die cut of the Whispers Houndstooth Background die, a die cut "HAPPY" from the Corner Concepts Happy Birthday die, the Whispers Hay Rack die, the Express Banners Anniversary die, small pink flowers, and a piece of Victorian Satin Ribbon. 

I used the ribbon to hide where my two pattern papers joined and glossy accent to glue all my heavier elements, like the flowers, ribbon bow.

On my second card I used the following: One sheet of pattern paper for my background, the Inspired by Stamping Happy Birthday fish tail banner stamp from the Chalkboard Birthday Stamp Set, a few of the Wee Petites Super Stars die and two die cuts of the Corner Concepts Good Times die.   

On this card I cut off an inch from the right hand side of my card front. I covered the card front and the now visible part of the inside card with the pattern paper, but first I insert the Good Times die cuts, so they were tucked between two layers and the joints were not visible from either the outside or inside of the card.  I glued the stars directly onto the pattern paper, but I used dimensional squares on the Happy Birthday banners.
